Oh, it’s my favorite thing to go pick out a Christmas tree. I like getting all wrapped up in my big winter coat and scarf–I was missing the gloves this year and paid for it. It is such a special experience for me to be with those I love most and go through each Christmas tree to find the perfect one for our home. All you hear is, “Vitaliy, what about that one! Oh wait, can you hold up that one. No, no that’s not it. There, there! Hold this one and shake it out a bit.” It is a process Internet and you can’t rush the process. You have to be confident this is the tree for the year that will be such a blessing to go to bed to and wake up to each day. It is so exciting to find the one and look at it with all it’s perfection. “That’s it! That’s the one! What to do you think, Vitaliy?” He agrees and carries it to the trimming area. And I am like a little girl full of anticipation and excitement to get home and get it decorated with all the trimmings.
We have a beautiful Christmas tree this year and I just love seeing it each day. Here are a few pictures of us decorating this year. Today is December 15th! Only 10 days till Christmas!!
Some how we didn’t get any pictures of my mom. I wonder if she planned that. So I will just note, these are some of the many, many ornaments given to me by my mother. Each year for Christmas, I received a new ornament from her with the year that it was given to me. It is one of my favorite traditions and each one is so special to me.
Here is my sister-in-law, Leska, and I meticulously decorating the tree. Look at the look on my face… ha ha ha… do you think this is important to me or what!?!
Ok, this really makes me want to go home and snuggle.
What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions? Leave me a note in the comments below.

your home looks so cozy & christmasy! one of our favorite traditions is giving each other pajamas on christmas eve. that way, we wear them to bed that night & then open presents & eat breakfast in them on christmas morning. my family has done that since i was little & it is a tradition that craig & i will carry on with our family too
Beautiful pictures! I just love your home. So cozy and inviting (Josh certainly thinks so, as he runs right in every time!).
Our favorite Christmas tradition is leaving milk & cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve. We just started this last year (on baby Nico’s first Christmas) and it brings back such great memories from my childhood. And, of course, I love getting to be Santa!
I love it! The ornaments and pictures are just beautiful. We have our home all decked out too, and it just makes me feel happy.… I love Christmastime!!
XOXO Megan
Mom is so glad there is no record of her trimming the tree! The tree is magnificent and so are the Prokopets!!
My favorite Christmas tradition was Christmas Eve. My mom’s two sisters would come over and we would prepare our favorite Ukranian dishes. I am not even going to attempt to spell them because I will insult my wonderful son-in-law. I can honestly say I love the stuffed cabbage as much as I love the cheese dumplings!! After over eating at dinner we would sit around the dining room table and play card games.(then eat some more!)
Merry Christmas to all!
How funny, Candace! You are definitely in the Holiday Zone. I can totally picture the process you’ve described between you and V.
I love getting the tree, too, but sadly did not get to experience that this year! It just doesn’t quite seem right without that smell and getting pine needles stuck in your socks. Makes me sad!
@Erica: I totally love your pajama tradition! What a great idea. @Dana: I am all about the milk and cookies for Santa.
