Where do I even begin? Oh, I know!
I’ll begin by saying thank you. That’s always a good place to start. Your support has truly been incredible. Vitaliy and I started this business over two years ago and it has been quite the adventure. To say the least. There have been days that I thought to myself, “We can’t do this. We just can’t do it.” And as soon as I felt at my lowest point, I’d get a sweet email from a client or read a comment from one of you. And it was just enough to keep us going. Running your own business is hard. Writing a blog is hard. You put so much of yourself into it. But that’s precisely why it’s so rewarding.
So thank you for taking this journey with us. Many of you have shared our work and this blog with others. And I just want to thank you. Small businesses do not survive without people sharing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
But I’m also writing today to invite you to go further along this journey with us. After two years in business, Vitaliy and I have spent the past few months really evaluating ourselves and this business. And we have learned a lot. And now I want to share it with you. They’ll be lots of changes coming to Prokopets Studio in the coming months. One cosmetic change will be a new blog and a new website, but that’s down the road a bit. We’ll work up to that. We’re not focusing on the destination, we want to enjoy the journey. With you.
Here’s the thing. I’ve heard from many people who tell me they read my blog and I’m shocked. I had no idea they read it or that they’d be interested. You’ve all convinced me that it’s not just my mom reading this thing, but I still have no idea who’s out there. And I’d love to know! So, if you have never left a comment — today is your day! Tell me who you are and why you read this blog. If it’s just because you’re bored at work, that’s fine. I appreciate the honesty. If it’s because you like hearing about my issues in the kitchen because you have the same issues — sweet! I’m happy I’m not alone.
Until we have our new website and blog, I thought we’d work on the current one. Hopefully you enjoy the new header! I was saving these pictures for our new website, but it won’t be ready for a bit so I thought we’d go ahead and launch them here. Below are a few other favorites from this session with the amazing Teresa Halton.
The blog also needs some organization. More cohesiveness and more purpose, I feel. And definitely more consistency. So I’m thinking to clean things up and have the following categories.
- Personal (posts about foods I like, being ghetto fabulous, my monster issues, and…oh, you know!)
- Business (I’ll be sharing about changes in our business and things I’m learning about business and marketing that might be helpful.)
- Photography (Vitaliy will start writing more and sharing lessons on photography that could be helpful.)
- Weddings
- Engagements
- Portraits
- A new category (I’ll be sharing further down the road. Anticipation!)
So, if you could leave me a comment and let me know which categories you’re most interested in already or would like to hear more of, that would be so helpful!
.
I posted a sneak peek of this shoot awhile back and I got a few emails about the dress. So ladies, the dress is from Anthropologie, along with the headband.

We wanted to have a real fun aspect to our shoot with things we love. We love old things so we incorporated the old theatre seats that sit in our living room. And we love movies so we played pretend with our favorite things we eat at the movie. And this is us pretending that we’re in the middle of a really scary scene. But you can see, I’m halfway laughing.

This is how I look all the time being married to Vitaliy. I recommend laughing with your spouse on a regular basis, as much as possible, all the time.

I love how love can make you feel like you are the only two people in the world. Sometimes it’s the perfect medicine to get you through a tough week.

And as much as you laugh with your spouse, you should kiss them just as much.

I’ve got to end with the V-man. I love him.

Mom here. I read the blog because I love the two of you and I want you to know I support everything you do.
First of all I love your writing style. My favorite category is always about your personal stuff; the cooking issues, exercise, life in general. You crack me up with it all.
Then I’d have to go with the pics. ALL the shoots, weddings, engagements, portraits you name it I love them! Your captions for the pics are pretty good too!
The new header is fabulous! The pictures are perfect but I must say, Vitaliy is a much better actor than you!
OMG!! It changes???? I love it! It did change right??
OMG.…..I am in love with your photographs guys.….….….….you are sooo beautiful!!!!!!
I read your blog because of you, your talent and personality
These photos are AMAZING. I mean, really. So beautiful, fun, interesting, and aesthetically stimulating.
Can’t wait to see the upcoming changes. I like all the categories!
Candace…I LOVE the new header and new pictures! You are beautiful (LOVE your Anthro dress!!) and Vitaliy is not too bad looking either
I love reading your blog…you write so well, and I can relate to the photography business side…and of course I love the work you both do! I know we keep talking about getting together…maybe April?! I can’t wait to see all your new changes!
Candace! You are gorgeous! Love these photos — sooo beautiful! Thanks for sharing! You and Vitaliy make quite the hot little number!
I’m over here reading your blog! But I think you already knew that — since I ask you about it every now and then!
you guys are such a beautiful couple! love your dress!
Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m pretty sure Vitaly married up. These look great!
Oh, Cameron, you are too funny! Thank you so much everyone! You made my day!
My friend/co-worker Kim made me a fan after you photographed her sister’s wedding (Laura and Matt.) You are very talented and you have great style! On my behalf Kim asked you about the dress…I wasn’t sure if it was a skirt and shirt combo or a dress. Good news, I found it on eBay and plan to wear it as my 30th birthday party dress! Now I just need to plan a party!
Hey Candace and V — I read your blog because i love seeing your photos — they’re so beautiful — and because, Candace, your personal blogs are entertaining and insightful
Keep it up!
I love reading your blog and of course the pics are always outstanding! Plus I get to keep up with the both of you through it! Keep up the great work you two!!
The photographs look great, it’s about time the camera was turned around on you!
Can’t wait to see the new blog/ website changes. I love all the categories!!! The new ones will be very helpful. Oh and I read the blog because Dan told me about it when you first started and I’ve been watching the business grow ever since.
I’m here!! I’m here!!
Love these pictures — even my mom did — we said “awww” to every one, esp. the one of you two sitting in the chairs from behind.
I personally would like to see more portraits of families, those with young kids (for obvious reasons).
But I’m impressed with every.single.picture you take!
Can’t wait to see your re-designed blog!!
just noticed the new header — LOVE IT!!!
I read your blog because I love you guys! I smile to myself every time you mention the first time you met V in the SDR…because I remember the story with umm…a little different twist coming from him the first time…before i even met you actually
. AND…I love your pictures. Adam must be so tired of hearing me say that I wished you lived closer to us so that we could have you photograph our girls. I love hearing about your “personal” stuff most, but I also enjoy weddings (what girl doesn’t?). Although my favorite will be “a new category” because i just *know* it’s gonna be about Prokopetsito
Yay! I LOVE it. I love your business! I love your talents, I love your blog, and I love you guys! Such BEAUTIFUL pics!! WOW.
Like models from a B.R. ad! Amazing. Can’t wait to see whats to come! So happy for your success;-)
I loved our photo shoot, you guys rock. What a great time we had and so much fun and continuous laughing.
And all those darn mosquito bites we got after the sun went down! It was a pleasure to photograph the both of you and to capture all these beautiful images. So good to see these on your blog now too!
i’m in the middle of upgrading my website and blog too, so i’d love to hear what you guys are doing or who you are using. i’m back and forth with flash, or HTML. anyway I read the blog because I meet your hubby at a photography workshop, and its so encouraging to see other photogs budding and or struggling with the same things and same passions. last, your pictures are ah-mazing!! I NEED YOUR DRESS!! ha ha. supper cute couple, inside and out! <3
I don’t know what else to say. I feel like I say the same thing all the time, but it’s encouraging for you to keep hearing it. I smile the whole time I’m reading each of your blog posts. Your writing and V’s pix keep me smiling the same! You both have so much class and creativity and are so beautiful! I don’t even read blogs, yours is the only one! And I read every single one! Sorry I can’t give my input on what I’d like to hear more of. Every idea that gets put into writing is genius…it’s different and changing and I’m always excited to see what it’s going to be about! That dress and headband and seats in the meadow and popcorn/candy/coke look fabulous!
Oh, and I love love love the new pictures you keep sharing in the header of your website! And how they keep changing!
no, thank YOU. it’s too late now to list off all the things you guys do for your clients (and friends) so i’ll be lazy and…not. so thank you for “everything”.
i sat here refreshing the site over and over to make sure i saw all the different shots in your header. that popcorn-in-the-air one’s my favorite!! you guys look beeyooootiful.
Amanda, you are so sweet! The throwing the popcorn one is my favorite too!
I first read your blog because you posted wedding pictures of a college friend of mine. This was almost a year ago and I’ve kept reading because I absolutely love your photos, your words, and mostly, I love reading about your love for your husband and the love you get to witness from the couples you photograph!
Although I’ll probably never meet you because I live on the other side of the country, when I read this post I wanted you to know that your posts always brighten my day… and I wish I was engaged (and lived in California) just so you could take gorgeous pictures of my wedding!
i can’t believe i almost missed this post!!
first off, can i TELL you how much i am in LOVE with your dress!!? it’s amazing, and candace, girl, you are GORGEOUS. i mean, i knew it freshman year in sweats, but now you just SHINE!
(Vi, loving the argyle! stylin!)
You two are just a joy. Keep shining that light and sharing that joy.… it’s so contagious.
Wish i was closer to you guys.
Love you guys a lot!
Oh man, how on earth did it take me this long to get caught up on your blog?? I only just read this post. Ok, so why do I read http://www.prokopetsstudio.com/blog? Number one, to critique my husband’s design of course! Just kidding. Because its one of my favorite ways to stay connected with your lives as we are tragically seperated. Sometimes I feel like I’m spying on you guys as I don’t reciprocate the favor and give you regular glimpses at Dallas life, but I’m not quite the woman you are, Candooce, and I don’t think I could do it justice! When I see you have a new post up, its an exciting surprise in an ordinary day!
